Pre-wound embroidery bobbin thread made from 120D/2 polyester filament in an L-size type

Bobbin Styles: L-style, M-style, A-style (class 15 bobbin)

Prewound bobbins offer exceptional convenience and do not void your sewing machine's warranty. Crafted using advanced industrial machinery, these bobbins hold 30-50% more thread than those wound manually. They also deliver tighter, more consistent tension, ensuring superior performance and efficiency.

Bobbins are an essential component of sewing, playing a critical role in forming stitches. To ensure smooth operation, the bobbin must match the specific style required by your machine. Whether you're sewing on a home machine, quilting with a longarm machine, or embroidering on a 10-needle machine, each type of equipment relies on a precise bobbin style.

To help you better understand bobbins, we've created an informative infographic highlighting the three most commonly used types: Class 15, L-style, and M-style. It's important to note that every sewing machine is designed to work with only one specific bobbin style.

L-style Boobin: The L-style bobbin is the most commonly used type in home sewing machines. Roughly the size of a US nickel, it is also used in certain longarm and commercial embroidery machines.

M-style Boobin: The M-style bobbin, designed for longarm and industrial sewing machines, features a larger capacity, nearly double the thread of an L-style bobbin.

A-style/Class 15 Bobbin: The A-style bobbin, also known as an A-style, closely resembles the L-style bobbin. While both share the same diameter, the A-style is wider, allowing it to hold more thread. It is the second most commonly used bobbin style. Since the L-style and A-style share identical diameters, many users add adapters or use extra cardboard sides from pre-wound bobbins in their bobbin cases to adjust for height differences.

Prewound bobbins have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering unmatched convenience by eliminating the need to manually wind bobbins. These bobbins typically contain 20% to 40% more thread than self-wound ones, thanks to advanced machinery that winds them efficiently at high speeds. Their practicality and efficiency make pre-wound bobbins an invaluable tool for many.
