Snap spring buttons, also known as five-claw buttons or ring snap fasteners, are a type of press-stud closure widely used in garments and textile accessories. Compared to traditional four-part snap buttons, five-prong snaps are lighter, easier to install, and especially suitable for thin or stretch fabrics.

Structure & Components

The five-prong snap button consists of four parts, similar to the four-part snap but with a distinct feature:

  • Cap with Five Claws (Prongs) – The top part with five sharp prongs that grip the fabric directly, eliminating the need for a separate post.
  • Socket – Receives the stud and completes the female side.
  • Stud – Engages with the socket to create the “snap” closure.
  • Post/Base – Secures the stud from the reverse side of the fabric.
