Product Description

Mikado is made of 100% polyester and is known for its heavy, lustrous finish and slightly stiff texture, which gives it a structured, elegant appearance.

In Abia, this fabric is highly valued for creating high-end fashion items such as bridal gowns, evening dresses, and formal wear.

Mikado fabric is often used by tailors and designers in Aba who cater to customers looking for sophisticated and durable materials for special occasions.

Satin Fabric Weaves

Satin is woven from long, continuous fibers and is defined by the filament length, not the fiber type. Originally made from silk pulled from a silkworm’s cocoon, modern satin can also be made from polyester or rayon, which are manufactured into long filaments.

There are several types of satin weaves:

satin weave

  • 4 harness satin weave: The weft thread goes over three warp threads and under one. This weave is more elastic and stretchy than the plain 1/1 weave.
  • 5 harness satin weave: Similar to the 4 harness weave, but the weft thread goes over four warp threads and under one.
  • 8 harness satin weave: The most flexible satin weave, where the weft thread goes over seven warp threads and under one.

Satin Fabric Characteristics

Satin weaves are more flexible than plain weaves and are known for their shiny finish and elegant drape. Key features of satin include:

  • Shiny front. Satin has a glossy, smooth front and a dull back due to its unique weave. It feels soft and luxurious.
  • Beautiful drape. The concentrated fibers and flexibility of the fabric create a soft drape, perfect for evening wear and curtains.
  • Durable. Made with long filament fibers woven tightly, satin is stronger than many plain weaves.
  • Wrinkle-resistant. Satin resists wrinkles better than other fabrics, especially thicker varieties.
